|
Translated from the original version - Acadie Nouvelle - October 5, 2009 LeGoulet – The community of LeGoulet, near Shippagan, finally has a new hall for its Golden Age Club. The official opening occurred recently in a hall filled with local people along with numerous dignitaries including Mayor Ulysse Haché, the Minister responsible for the Acadian Peninsula Denis Landry, and the M.P. for Acadie-Bathurst Yvon Godin. Also present was Father Donat Gionet, founder of the Club more than 30 years ago, who has the honour of having the Club named after him. Previously, the Club had to borrow a hall from the community centre. The president of the Club, and former Mayor of LeGoulet, Denis Roussel, is proud of this occasion, along with the membership of the Club which has gone from 123 to 182 since January. The hall is located near the community centre in a former brasserie. The hall will be used mostly for seniors but also for the general population for events such as suppers (fish similar to turbot October 17th) and an evening for Halloween October 31st. This new acquisition for the Club is the result of financial participation from several members (the president pledged $20,000), and donations from the general public and support from the government of New Brunswick. |
